The United States lived through a difficult 24 hours, during which it recorded the largest daily death toll known to the world since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, while the most senior American officials renewed their criticism of China, amid reports of an investigation by American intelligence to know how the Covid 19 originated.
Johns Hopkins University – which monitors the spread of the epidemic – reported that the United States recorded 4,926 new deaths from the Corona Covid 19within 24 hours, taking the total number in the country to about 31,000.
About 30,000 new infections were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the United States to more than 609,000.
The high rates of deaths and injuries in the United States indicate that the country hardest hit by the epidemic may pass these days at the peak of the curve.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump suggested that his country had passed the peak of the Coruna epidemic, and said that he would announce on Thursday new measures related to measures to open states again to business and economic movement.
Trump stressed that some states would open before May 1, and indicated that his country had made great progress in the field of medicines used to treat people living with the Covid 19.
American criticism of China
Meanwhile, US officials have strengthened their accusations of China of being responsible for how things have become since the Covid 19 first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December.
US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Thursday that he believed Chinese leaders were misleading and obfuscating the outbreak.
Esper said – on the “Today” program on the NBC network – that he finds it difficult to believe the information received from the ruling Chinese Communist Party, adding, “They are misleading us, they kept secret of the matter in the early days of this Covid 19; therefore I do not have much confidence even in They are telling us the truth now. “
On Wednesday, Trump said his government was trying to find out if the new Coronavirus had been created in a laboratory in Wuhan.
In the same vein, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that China should be honest.
An American investigation
The US officials’ statements came in conjunction with a CNN report in which it quoted US intelligence and national security officials as saying that the US government is looking into the possibility that the new Corona Covid 19 originated in a Chinese laboratory, and not in a market for wild animal meat and fish, as China says. .
However, these sources stressed that it is too early to draw any conclusions from this investigation.
China denies the charges
For its part, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that the World Health Organization announced that it had found no evidence that the emerging coronavirus was produced in a laboratory.
Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Jian said – at a press conference – that world body officials “have repeatedly said that there is no evidence that the new corona virus was created in the laboratory.” But the spokesman did not directly comment on Trump’s comments in this context.
Globally, the epidemic continues to ravage many countries, with confirmed cases totaling about 2 million and 82,000 cases, and total deaths exceeding 138,000, while more than 525,000 people have recovered, according to the latest statistics published by Johns Hopkins University on Thursday afternoon.
Europe is still in the eye of the storm
The regional director of the World Health Organization in Europe, Hans Klug, said that European countries are still in the eye of the storm, with the number of people infected with Coronavirus approaching the million mark.
He also cautioned that any relaxation of restrictions imposed to reduce the spread of the virus must be done gradually.
Several European countries have begun to ease some of their procedures, as they have partially opened schools and some shops.
The virus has killed more than ninety thousand people in Europe, more than 65% of all deaths in the world, according to a census of the French Press Agency Thursday.
With this ratio of deaths to the total infected, Europe remains the continent most affected by the emerging coronavirus
Emergencies across Japan
The Japanese government decided to extend the state of emergency, to cover all parts of the country, in light of the sharp increase in the number of cases of coronavirus.
Last week, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency in only seven states, comprising Tokyo, Osaka and five major cities. Abe called at the time to reduce contact between people by up to 80% to prevent the spread of the virus. But the number of injuries continued to rise, currently exceeding 8,700, and the country recorded about 180 deaths.
